Once again it has been a little while, over the last 6 weeks I've just started a new job and have been crazy busy! But while my time is lessened, I can now buy all the hobby in the world, starting with an airbrush!<br />
<br />
Today i'm going to focus on the melta/flamer CSM and the autocannon CSM I featured in a previous post, as well as a slightly converted DV Chosen as a chaos champion.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ClkJ9S3bZ1I/U3HhbRvfXDI/AAAAAAAAAOY/12XGNP8TgBo/s1600/flamerfront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ClkJ9S3bZ1I/U3HhbRvfXDI/AAAAAAAAAOY/12XGNP8TgBo/s1600/flamerfront.jpg" height="318" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a front on of the flamer/melta specialist, the gun is magnetized and can be swapped out for either. As you may be able to tell, my lighting/photography situation is slightly better now, but still far from perfect! Please, read on :) -----></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used a huge amount of skeleton parts from an old miniature kit from another company, I try to base my marines around a theme, and this guy is a bone taker - but first, he cleanses the flesh from the bones - with prometheum. I am particularly fond of the bone gorget and the left thigh. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sEbNTmUGxVQ/U3HhyhGYTjI/AAAAAAAAAOg/1Deh8pRkv80/s1600/flamerback.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sEbNTmUGxVQ/U3HhyhGYTjI/AAAAAAAAAOg/1Deh8pRkv80/s1600/flamerback.jpg" height="320" width="281" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I like to avoid duplicated parts in my models, so rather than use Kranon's backpack again (I have 2 DV kits), I cut the core of it out and then attached regular CSM backpack components to where I removed the newer more organic ones, I am pretty happy with the result. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oU6YzuXWXl0/U3HinEnyh-I/AAAAAAAAAOo/jQrWuUbWVZY/s1600/flamerside.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oU6YzuXWXl0/U3HinEnyh-I/AAAAAAAAAOo/jQrWuUbWVZY/s1600/flamerside.jpg" height="320" width="287" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This model is also the first time I have attempted to use small railway chain from a hobby store, I am loving the effect - The miniature alter of bones held up by skeletal hands is a beloved part of this conversion for me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yt9lr3VMqVs/U3Hi5oIBG_I/AAAAAAAAAOw/XpV542_VvmQ/s1600/champion.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yt9lr3VMqVs/U3Hi5oIBG_I/AAAAAAAAAOw/XpV542_VvmQ/s1600/champion.jpg" height="320" width="306" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next up is the champion, as usual, the detail on these amazing DV sculpts puts the old plastic marines to shame, the conversion work I put in to my regular troops is merely to make it possible for me to stand the miniatures side by side without cringing! I use my DV chosen as chaos champions, and to do this I usually need to swap out their power weapons - lucky I have plenty of raptor chainswords, which are suitably detailed to fit perfectly with the chosen sculpts. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6ntsRRIUjQQ/U3HjW5wzKoI/AAAAAAAAAO4/gNANWmB9roE/s1600/champion+side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6ntsRRIUjQQ/U3HjW5wzKoI/AAAAAAAAAO4/gNANWmB9roE/s1600/champion+side.jpg" height="320" width="302" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the interests of both keeping my models WYSIWYG, as well as not re-using the same highly unique sculpts, I made my own 'bolter chained to backpack' rather than using the one being reloaded by a tentacle twice. The sword is also magnetized, so his original power axe can be used!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qwjaA3ruAO0/U3HjsP5hDRI/AAAAAAAAAPA/Ox2V3B7_Kg4/s1600/weapon+swaps.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qwjaA3ruAO0/U3HjsP5hDRI/AAAAAAAAAPA/Ox2V3B7_Kg4/s1600/weapon+swaps.jpg" height="318" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So these are the mostly painted weapon swaps for the two above miniatures, they are unfinished mostly because I am lazy, and when a model seems finished, I generally move on to something else, like my predator. However, I endeavor to finish these in the next week while I wait for paint to dry.<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iX3B7awqw74/U3Hj-HdnL0I/AAAAAAAAAPI/lyKZAzvomvo/s1600/autocannon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iX3B7awqw74/U3Hj-HdnL0I/AAAAAAAAAPI/lyKZAzvomvo/s1600/autocannon.jpg" height="312" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And the final soldier for this post, the autocannon marine. I used a fair amount of plasticard to add minor detailing to this model, as well as some etched brass for the autocannon. I try to ignore how phallic the autocannon can look when you look at the skeleton, and focus on how cool it is. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7fem1VZxmvo/U3HkTIx0c0I/AAAAAAAAAPQ/tK6IkCCVU_o/s1600/autocannonside2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7fem1VZxmvo/U3HkTIx0c0I/AAAAAAAAAPQ/tK6IkCCVU_o/s1600/autocannonside2.jpg" height="320" width="217" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Not much to say here, just another angle, showing more plasticard - especially happy with the elbow pads. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XW0PW1XmDjA/U3Hkh_btumI/AAAAAAAAAPY/hywTiHrqc04/s1600/autocannon+side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XW0PW1XmDjA/U3Hkh_btumI/AAAAAAAAAPY/hywTiHrqc04/s1600/autocannon+side.jpg" height="283" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Parting shot of the blog post today, I also like the little lightning motif I added with plasticard on either side of the shoulder skull decor, and a decent shot of the tigris pattern bolt pistol from forge world. (I keep my models WYSIWYG at all times, so grenades and pistols are a must.</div>
<br />
<br />
Thanks for taking your time to read this, I've almost finished my converted predator so a post on that shouldn't be too far away. Please comment if you like what you see here, and follow my blog for ever increasingly better posts :)!<br />
<br />
Cheers! All the hype surrounding the hellbrute model release and the dataslate rules got me really burning to make a hellbrute. For me when the desire to make something comes I just need to go with it, and the result is one of the quickest paint jobs I've ever done. An 8 day hellbrute.<br />
<br />
So sure I've got no money... But what I did have was a Dark Vengeance hellbrute just begging for a lick of paint. I am very happy with the water effects slime on the tentacles, 10/10 would use again.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v-egwDunfD0/UzrXLlAUCzI/AAAAAAAAANc/e-sWL4C1k_4/s1600/hellfront1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v-egwDunfD0/UzrXLlAUCzI/AAAAAAAAANc/e-sWL4C1k_4/s1600/hellfront1.jpg" height="320" width="308" /></a></div>
<br />
While I didn't manage to get too many work in progress shots on this model as I made it mostly in secret (my housemate and I are having a bit of a competition...) I did snap a couple, and once it was 'revealed' I was free to go wild with my terrible camera phone. (that turned out ok this time). Read on!...<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Following roughly one of the side columns in a recent White Dwarf 'paint splatter' I decided to paint my hellbrute in the following order, skin > metal > plates > details. I have to saw it was a very rewarding way to paint, having the completed fleshtone as a solid base made it really feel like the model was making solid strides towards completion at every step.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EiJBf0q7It8/UzrYeSWJ_NI/AAAAAAAAANs/Tfv0GOP7SRE/s1600/hellWIP.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EiJBf0q7It8/UzrYeSWJ_NI/AAAAAAAAANs/Tfv0GOP7SRE/s1600/hellWIP.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My recipe for warpflesh is very simple, I start with Doombull brown then layer with Khorne red. Once this is done I do a rough highlight in Mephiston Red and liberally wash it with Agrax Earthshade. It is a simple scheme that I think looks effective and fits my image of what 'daemonflesh' should look like. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
This model was fantastic to paint, however it has one disappointing aspect that many snap together models share - decent sized gaps to fill. I honestly got pretty lazy, opting not to fill the gaps on one side, but the seem on his shoulders was simply too obvious, so I greenstuffed it over.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UwmkWksuPgI/UzraCI2YlKI/AAAAAAAAAN4/OzV7pHXyWNY/s1600/hellbrutefist.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UwmkWksuPgI/UzraCI2YlKI/AAAAAAAAAN4/OzV7pHXyWNY/s1600/hellbrutefist.jpg" height="320" width="222" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My personal favorite part of the model has to be the power fist, I love how it came out but I am also a fan of the mould itself. Those sharp clean spikes and the slight grooves in the upper plate are the little details that when painted pop out and look awesome. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-noifvpp6Mpo/UzraW940EFI/AAAAAAAAAOA/Y4eX-e42xRU/s1600/hellleft.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-noifvpp6Mpo/UzraW940EFI/AAAAAAAAAOA/Y4eX-e42xRU/s1600/hellleft.jpg" height="320" width="234" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My Hellbrute shamefully showing his gaping seam.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s_nxEIaAPkQ/UzraXETdidI/AAAAAAAAAOE/lnd5IbybY-U/s1600/hellright.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s_nxEIaAPkQ/UzraXETdidI/AAAAAAAAAOE/lnd5IbybY-U/s1600/hellright.jpg" height="320" width="250" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The multimelta is a cool little piece, but I feel it appears just slightly too small compared to the other arm. I used my standard melta color distortion of brown > purple > blue here, but it didn't come out well in the picture. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As usual - Thanks for reading, I hope you saw something you liked. An unusual straight out of the box paint job for me, but its such a unique and fantastic model I didn't feel I needed to touch it up. Next time --- The two custom chaos marines featured on my workbench post are getting painted! Until then happy painting!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />28mm Maniachttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09450395752974084426noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1778172207027972563.post-45545888159165717282014-03-21T23:54:00.000-07:002014-03-21T23:54:32.533-07:00On The Table -- Chaos Conversions and a leg.So in the spirit of posting more regularly, I have decided to start posting two new thematic blog updates aside from simply posting my most recently completed work.<br />The first of these will be On the Table, my currently half created or half baked ideas that litter the corners of my workspace pleading to be finished.<br />And the second will be 12 Year Old Ham. Which is basically flashbacks showcasing the horrible creations of my youth with some nice contrasts to my newer models.<br /><br />Today I am focusing on some near finished chaos conversions and a mysterious leg that has found its way onto my table.<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F2sI7u2ZWo8/Uy0uw_tGaHI/AAAAAAAAAMY/zkJNkSWLMtQ/s1600/autocside.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F2sI7u2ZWo8/Uy0uw_tGaHI/AAAAAAAAAMY/zkJNkSWLMtQ/s1600/autocside.jpg" height="320" width="304" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This is the first of two Chaos Space Marines that sit almost finished on my desk. I strongly feel that my traitors need to be decorated more to bring them in line with the newer dark vengeance and raptor sculpts. And while I am no citadel sculptor, there's a lot you can do with thin plasticard and greenstuff with little to no skill.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /><a name='more'></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This traitor is made from three kits, the forge world heresy era autocannon kit, a finecast havok torso that went unused when I made my nurgle havoks, and a regular CSM sprue. It also has a skeleton I stole from my mates box of random skeletons.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Dlnn9-zGSY4/Uy0vyC3f9pI/AAAAAAAAAMo/hVdTZWpNxco/s1600/autoc2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Dlnn9-zGSY4/Uy0vyC3f9pI/AAAAAAAAAMo/hVdTZWpNxco/s1600/autoc2.jpg" height="308" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div>
For some reason my broken Iphone decided to greenwash these photos, but until I can find employment, work for months and buy a new camera --- I just have to deal with its temperamental nature.<br />I am a particular fan of the Renegade Militia etched brass from forgeworld, and used a small peice of it cut in half here on the autocannon. I also love the skeleton strapped onto the barrel and that particular helmet on the chaos sprue.<br /><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zs4JIugAnRg/Uy0w62wvT3I/AAAAAAAAAM4/7RUsBFmC9qk/s1600/melta1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zs4JIugAnRg/Uy0w62wvT3I/AAAAAAAAAM4/7RUsBFmC9qk/s1600/melta1.jpg" height="320" width="307" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This second traitor is themed after the ashen bones of the dead - which is quite evident. He is magnetized to wield either a meltagun or a flamer, and his helmet is a Mk III iron armor helm from forgeworld.<br />One of the skeletal hands that make up his bone gorget has fallen off mysteriously here, but I do quite like the effect. On his right shoulder more hands hold up a pile of bones which are then chained on to the shoulder, and the other has a skull skewered through the eyes. His backpack is the happy fusion of a regular CSM backpack and a spare I had from my Kranon the Relentless duplicate from Dark Vengeance.<br />He is more than a tiny bit over the top, but I really like his 'character'</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-b_rjxzFNfbY/Uy0ya2gkjGI/AAAAAAAAANM/_j3qm7wnXxA/s1600/riptide+leg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-b_rjxzFNfbY/Uy0ya2gkjGI/AAAAAAAAANM/_j3qm7wnXxA/s1600/riptide+leg.jpg" height="233" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And here is the promised leg, immediately not a mystery to almost anyone -- its actually pretty obvious.<br /><br />I am currently at the 'wash' stage on this paint job, and there's plenty of messy bits that need to be cleaned up, but I like it overall.<br />Unfortunately --- And i throw this out there as a word of warning -- Do not try blu-tac camo schemes in the Australian summer, the sun managed to basically melt the blu-tac and now i'm left with horrible unsightly imperfections in between the camo. This is also in part to having a horrible air brush that half broke during the process and spat a huge amount of paint at my model to my shock and terror -- So yes, part tide mark, part blu-tac filth.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At tabletop distance however, this model is going to be one respectable monster.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks for taking the time to read everyone, if you like what you see please follow my blog - And as usual I'd love any comments, suggestions, or words of wisdom.<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hopefully by next week my current project will be completed and I can post up a new model.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br /></div>
Time to post up my latest work, Renegade Guardsmen. It has been a long, hot summer since I last posted. Originally I of course intended my blog to be far more regular than this, but one can only post as often as one completes projects. With a summer of little to no money and heat that dries the paint off your brush faster than you can apply it, it has not been a very productive few months.<br />
<br />
A desire to use Forgeworld weathering powders on my predator left that on the back burner, and a commission for a Tau riptide has also eaten in to my time (Still working on that one) --- But I have managed to finally finish something. My chaos renegade command squad had been loose inside my bits box for far too long, and I decided it needed to be painted.<br />

Once more poor photography skills, a bad camera and nowhere to take photos has left these models looking far more washed out than they do in person, but such is life sometimes. </div>

I hope you like my Chaos Renegade Command squad, which hopefully will head a whole army of guardsmen when the new codex comes out.</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This time I will open with the group photo, I think it captures well the feel of these renegades. I decided on a very simple dark grey painted steel on lighter grey uniform paint scheme, and made it more interesting with chipped paint and rust. I wanted to give the feeling that their uniforms were practical in a black ashen wasteland dotted with urban settings. I chose brown and 'tin bitz' for secondary colors and I feel it gives them just a touch of a steampunk vibe.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xsWS9kjemZk/UyKI_4pa3sI/AAAAAAAAAK0/HohmIH10_E0/s1600/commandsquad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xsWS9kjemZk/UyKI_4pa3sI/AAAAAAAAAK0/HohmIH10_E0/s1600/commandsquad.jpg" height="188" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As you can see from the bases, i mixed ashen rock with pavement and worn metal grates. I followed the guide on stippling metal tones found in Imperial Armor Masterclass Volume 2 --- The section dealing with the titan. I actually love the effect for these renegades, and have started using it a lot in my painting, including adapting the technique for use on pavement to give it a concrete tone. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For the commander, I waited until last. I wasn't sure that i liked the pose and the character in general when he stood next to the rest, so it took me a while to work out what to do with him. Suddenly I had a flash of inspiration, realizing this militia commander was probably not always in the military, I decided he was once a brutal gang leader in the lower slums of a dirty manufactorium hive. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These pictures, while blurry in parts, capture that personality. On the left image, you can see the barbed wire tattoo I painted on to his upper arm, as well as my still burgeoning efforts at plasma glow. You can also see the back side of his chainsword arm, which I painted a simple rose pattern on. Unfortunately, the resin chainsword was beyond salvaging when it arrived, it was twisted and dotted with holes, so i lopped it off and glued on an old metal obliterator chainsword, i'm happy with the result.<br />
<br />
In the picture to the right, you can see my attempt at freehanding a tiny chinese dragon onto his chainsword, this and the rose pattern felt very right to me, almost bladerunner inspired. This gang boss probably had that installed before military service, losing a hand and demanding a brutal but beautiful weapon replace it.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally on the right I used a combination of red and brown washes to make his tissues seem red-raw and swollen, perhaps horrible infections are only kept at bay by a constant supply of chems. </div>

The vox operator was a joy to paint, and I loved getting to test the steadiness of my hand on the tiny dials and gauges on his front and back. I am happy with the result there. Also, rather than attempt to fill the gap left from attaching his arm, I made a greenstuff bandage and wrapped it around, then bloodied it. It is hard to see here, but I am especially happy with the blood tones on the grey military uniform.<br />
<br />
I will finish up with a close up of the last three soldiers in the squad, sorry they are low quality shots. Thankyou for taking the time to read this post, and hopefully the next one will come around a lot sooner.\<br />

Every single change I made created another problem that needed modification.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JaJKnknCwtc/UoeTt8GeBYI/AAAAAAAAAJg/V_binrqgaog/s1600/pred5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JaJKnknCwtc/UoeTt8GeBYI/AAAAAAAAAJg/V_binrqgaog/s1600/pred5.jpg" height="320" width="282" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This is my first big build, and my first attempt to make anything substantial that needs to stand up to tabletop viewing and it was both frustrating and time consuming. However using the forgeworld renegade etched brass was the highlight for me, a small sprue packed with amazing pieces.<br />
Ultimately I have managed to turn a tank i dislike (the predator just feels like a fat box with a tiny gun on it), into a tank I like, but don't love.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
On the front I decided to have two magnetized panels that could be swapped out for various pieces of wargear, such as dirge casters and combi meltas. The spikes on the front came with the forge world spaced armor, however I had no idea where I was supposed to put them so i decided on the front, where I will later weave razor wire between them.<br />
<br />
Up top I needed to move the turret forward because with the side skirting on the gun it could no longer fully rotate - a problem I needed to fix.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3rvZZOMFsHM/UoeVylg3IvI/AAAAAAAAAJs/GAp4CgHY4K4/s1600/pred4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3rvZZOMFsHM/UoeVylg3IvI/AAAAAAAAAJs/GAp4CgHY4K4/s1600/pred4.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As I mentioned at the beginning - every change created a new one. After moving the turret forward it suddenly started getting stuck on the hatches at the front. So I had to raise it up to avoid that. I also cut the panel in half to keep the vent detailing visible at the back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GrcIH2q8MwE/UoeW-A_OZEI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/eyXftg8XmSk/s1600/pred6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GrcIH2q8MwE/UoeW-A_OZEI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/eyXftg8XmSk/s1600/pred6.jpg" height="320" width="315" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the back of the predator I decided to remove the door studs (why would a predator have a rear hatch when the internals are supposedly very different from a rhino). I went for a more traditional tank approach, and put a spare armor panel from a stormblade kit on it, finished with a tow bar I made from various parts on the chaos spikey sprue.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XG-ALreIE8Y/UoeXdsUxj9I/AAAAAAAAAJ8/qU8bHDMQxX8/s1600/pred7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XG-ALreIE8Y/UoeXdsUxj9I/AAAAAAAAAJ8/qU8bHDMQxX8/s1600/pred7.jpg" height="262" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The side skirts on the turret were made based on the ones used on real world tanks, specifically the Panzer IV. I decided to greenstuff welding lines connecting the skirts with the turret, and add a few little plasticard tubes to make it look like the havok launchers had some cabling connecting them to the turret. After these pictures were taken, I did some work with files and liquid greenstuff to fix up imperfections and even them out, and overall I am pretty happy with the result. I also am happy with my simple co-axial combi bolter, although I wish my greenstuff work was smoother.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dRrCRYOBU3o/UoeYJy6QL7I/AAAAAAAAAKE/cBhh-2xrM7s/s1600/pred1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dRrCRYOBU3o/UoeYJy6QL7I/AAAAAAAAAKE/cBhh-2xrM7s/s1600/pred1.jpg" height="203" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8DvJT-S4LZM/UoeYKisZiqI/AAAAAAAAAKM/iQtAVaUkadw/s1600/pred2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8DvJT-S4LZM/UoeYKisZiqI/AAAAAAAAAKM/iQtAVaUkadw/s1600/pred2.jpg" height="259" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The havok launchers also recieved the greenstuff treatment to fix the holes and neaten out the join between plastic and plasticard.<br />
<br />
Thanks for reading! As usual any feedback would be great, and next week I aim to post something painted - although I can't promise it will be the predator.<br />
Cheers!<br />

However two days ago a package arrived at the door from forge world.<br />
<br />
Inside was my copy of Horus Heresy Massacre, which I have to say is a fantastic book. I am definitely going to be collecting a Mechanicum army (well, dark mechanicum).<br />
<br />
In my order I also had some Chaos Rhino extra armor, which I had been eagerly anticipating. I am a big fan of classic tanks such as the Panzer IV, and the idea of side skirting on my predator was very appealing.<br />
<br />
While nowhere on forgeworld does it state these kits can work with a predator, I just went with it assuming if it didn't work I would make it work.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4L04sLrbUBw/UnJR9txjdsI/AAAAAAAAAJE/G-oyXVI1Exw/s1600/pred1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4L04sLrbUBw/UnJR9txjdsI/AAAAAAAAAJE/G-oyXVI1Exw/s320/pred1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It turns out they do - So for anyone out there looking at these side skirt kits, dont worry about it they do fit on predators as well as rhinos without affecting the sponsons too much (if at all, slightly obscures shooting but not enough to worry someone who likes the look of them)<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Another issue I had with the predator was with realistic weapon placement. The havok launcher just didnt feel right, it was either too large and bulky placed on top of the turret, or it would impede the turrets ability to rotate if placed on the hull. So, remembering the glorious Mammoth tanks from my beloved Red Alert (the original), I decided to slice my havok launchers in two and place them on either side of the turret.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mwWfBSieDG4/UnJR9jc9z8I/AAAAAAAAAJI/WtNjU_Zm1WE/s1600/pred2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mwWfBSieDG4/UnJR9jc9z8I/AAAAAAAAAJI/WtNjU_Zm1WE/s320/pred2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
As well as this, I removed the strange camera from the auto cannon (If the twin linked lascannons don't need a lense, why does the autocannon?) and replaced it with a co-axial combi-bolter. I felt that this would be a nice touch without changing the 'pintle mounted' weapons firing arc.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZKWfila0uok/UnJSAJMkhQI/AAAAAAAAAJU/5Uinmgc_GoU/s1600/pred3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZKWfila0uok/UnJSAJMkhQI/AAAAAAAAAJU/5Uinmgc_GoU/s320/pred3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
These photos are of a blu-tak fit for my tank, and are nothing like the end result I have pictured. But its a step in the right direction. I will be adding skirting similar to the forgeworld extra armor to the turret, which will bulk it out as well as give a proper mounting for the new havok launcher. These are being made from plasticard of the same thickness as the forgeworld resin.<br />
<br />
Overall I am shying away from the spikey chaos look in exchange for a decorated but not over the top, practical chaos battle tank. I want this thing to look like a beast next to its loyalist counterparts.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
On a quick and unrelated note, I went down to my local games workshop on the weekend and asked for a quick lesson in NMM for power weapons. I had never touched NMM before and felt I needed to learn a new technique to advance my painting skill as well as make my chaos weapons stand out.<br />
<br />
After being shown the technique, I painted up a Raptor power sword in store, but felt it was too 'busy' as well as needing a more gentle blend between shades. I went home and whipped up a power axe and am very happy with the result.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CKQh_nlAEbI/UnJR8vpj5II/AAAAAAAAAI8/hIVBnLQpFCI/s1600/IMG_0781.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CKQh_nlAEbI/UnJR8vpj5II/AAAAAAAAAI8/hIVBnLQpFCI/s320/IMG_0781.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I love how the weapons seem to glow and will definitely use this technique on future weapons. Going forward I may bring the highlights up a few shades closer to yellow, but I haven't decided yet.<br />
<br />
Thanks for reading! Next update should be the completed predator build OR, failing that, an Obliterator!<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bi0xDqbQkRs/UmdhJXlOklI/AAAAAAAAAHE/E8DSv_MRwyo/s1600/intro.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bi0xDqbQkRs/UmdhJXlOklI/AAAAAAAAAHE/E8DSv_MRwyo/s320/intro.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So this weeks post is a bit of a gallery, I'd love to hear what you think...<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
The Decimator model was an absolute treat to paint (in a manner of speaking) - The detail was fantastic and the quality of the cast was excellent as well. The conversion beamer was a little warped but it didn't bother me too much. Unfortunately when I first received my Decimator I was given 4 shins and no upper arms, but a quick skype call later had the arms sent to me immediately. Amazingly I received the arms a week later, express posted all the way to Australia, I was impressed enough to forgive the initial mistake.<br />
<br />
<br />
Unfortunately I didn't take many photos of its construction, However as you may be able to tell I decided to paint it one segment at a time and build it from the ground up. As I had no faith in resin, I pinned the model in every join.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xRJ5QNjIxwU/UmdiH6V-plI/AAAAAAAAAHU/_oppb8d_luw/s1600/decimatorprogress1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xRJ5QNjIxwU/UmdiH6V-plI/AAAAAAAAAHU/_oppb8d_luw/s320/decimatorprogress1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZvvQx7R1bUI/UmdiHiUGyWI/AAAAAAAAAHc/3FAV40uehfg/s1600/decimatorprogress2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZvvQx7R1bUI/UmdiHiUGyWI/AAAAAAAAAHc/3FAV40uehfg/s320/decimatorprogress2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-I5LTMD2hRf0/UmdiHT_6uwI/AAAAAAAAAHY/SbLXqDAXSTQ/s1600/decimatorprogress3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-I5LTMD2hRf0/UmdiHT_6uwI/AAAAAAAAAHY/SbLXqDAXSTQ/s320/decimatorprogress3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />

I mentioned that the Decimator was 'mostly' a treat to paint, and it was - But here is where it got painful; The cabling. The extreme level of detail and the sheer number of cables and parts to paint became an exercise in tedium and frustration, especially when in the back of my mind I knew most of my work would soon be covered up by large shoulder guards.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pnrwm05JH8w/UmdiJsufkwI/AAAAAAAAAHs/hmi_POe4hds/s1600/decimatorprogress4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pnrwm05JH8w/UmdiJsufkwI/AAAAAAAAAHs/hmi_POe4hds/s320/decimatorprogress4.jpg" width="240" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dcFpUR5Fl28/UmdiKOqN8HI/AAAAAAAAAHw/PEXjocU45K4/s1600/decimatorprogress5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dcFpUR5Fl28/UmdiKOqN8HI/AAAAAAAAAHw/PEXjocU45K4/s320/decimatorprogress5.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>

I thought I shouldn't leave it too long before I posted the completed Havoks.<br />
I learnt a hell of a lot painting these guys, as my first real project in a new army it was a challenge and took me way longer than it should have, but its all worth it in the end in my opinion.<br />
<br />
From a rules perspective I thought I might mention my logic when it came to choosing two autocannons and two missile launchers - Its called middleground - They offer decent effectiveness against vehicles and with frag missiles, good effectiveness against masses. Also, if i am facing fliers and chose flakk missiles (for some bizarre reason) two BS4 autocannon shots and four autocannon snapshots are nothing to be sniffed at for light anti-air.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9ili8dfVjLM/Ul1dJtcMuEI/AAAAAAAAAFc/me7t2e4HSro/s1600/autohavok11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9ili8dfVjLM/Ul1dJtcMuEI/AAAAAAAAAFc/me7t2e4HSro/s320/autohavok11.jpg" width="247" /></a></div>
<br />
These Havoks were a blast to paint, and as someone who had never painted a 'dirty' model in his life they offered so many new techniques to learn and tools to work with for future models.<br />
<br />
... Onwards to the pictures!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<b>Autocannon Havok 1</b><br />
<br />
This havok was a pleasure to make and paint - The forgeworld autocannon was a bit of a pain to work with though, while gorgeous, the ammo feed did not want to fit into the gun and the barrel was slightly warped. I think this is 'mostly' due to using a forgeworld deathguard torso, which is probably a bit wider than a standard legion torso.<br />
My plasticard arrows are a bit slap dash in hindsight, but i can live with that and call it lesson learnt. And the shell casings coming from the autocannon look cool to me, but i'm not sure people get it at first glance.<br />
<br />

<b>Autocannon Havok 2</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This guy is one of two 'out of the box' models, with all the components being 'as is' from the various boxes i got them from. To try to differentiate him I added a decent amount of scarring to his armor as well as some nice nurgle growths on his legs. I also decided to hand loose cabling from a rusted through part of his backpack but it is not captured well in the pictures here. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My great love of this model entirely comes from the reposed nurgling and scratch built ammo box... i simply love the idea of a little nurgling pottering along carrying his spare ammo. Maybe this guy has a dozen of them following him around? I can see that happening.</div>

<b>Missile Launcher Havok 1</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This Havok was the concept/test model for the whole squad. His backpack is heavily converted and covered in broken power cables and rusted parts. I used small amounts of plasticard to add decoration to the elbow and knee, and I think while not perfect, it adds a nice effect. The idea of the nurgling reloading his missile launcher came to me one day, and was the inspiration for the entire squad. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Missile Launcher Havok 2</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Missile man #2 is the second "out of the box" model in the squad, I made similar modifications to him as to the other out of the box model, and overall is my least favorite member of the squad. (That said, I do really like the old havok missile launcher model)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>More missile tip patterns, a nurgling in the ammo storage bunker got bored and found paint.</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Havok Champion</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Havok champion was the most extensively converted model in the squad, and that can be seen in my earlier post about the conversion process. Painting him was also a challenge in its own right, having basically never painted flesh of any sort to painting rotten nurgle flesh was a big leap. I am content with the result, but not ecstatic. I cut off his left hand at the wrist and made both a knife holding a combat knife and a power sword. I doubt i would ever give a havok champion a power sword but it certainly looks better when on the shelf.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The nurgling following the champion was only ever meant to be scooping up the daemon's drool, however when i realized I had nowhere left to put the champions wargear (after moddeling his thighs exploding from their armor) - I turned him into a little pack animal of sorts.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

My number one goal when creating a new unit or starting any modeling project is to create a story within the model. For me, being able to look at a model or unit and immediately see a glimpse into their 'reality' is a huge part of the joy of conversion.<br />
<br />
The image i dreamed up was a squad of nurgle havoks, bloated bodies rippling against the recoil of their guns, oil smoke acrid fumes and bullet casings abounds while small nurglings climbed all over them, un-jamming weapons and re-loading launchers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iRdfxTsZHlE/UlvWX-yrumI/AAAAAAAAACQ/PkYZOBUHG1E/s1600/ML1Havok1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iRdfxTsZHlE/UlvWX-yrumI/AAAAAAAAACQ/PkYZOBUHG1E/s320/ML1Havok1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Now onto the project itself...<br />
<br />
*Note: The earlier my project, the less complete my step by step photos are, and now that I am writing a blog future projects will be documented better.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<br />
To complete this project, I needed a fair bit (However the bitz left over are extensive and easily enough to make another 5 marines)<br />
<br />
- 1 box of finecast havoks<br />
- 1 forgeworld death guard conversion kit<br />
- 1 box of nurglings<br />
- 1 box forgeworld autocannons<br />
- 1 forgeworld chaos militia etched brass (only one piece used)<br />
- A space marine missile launcher.<br />
- plasticard and plastic tubing<br />
- Green stuff<br />
<br />
Most of the green stuff work was simple enough, molding swellings and lumps onto the limbs of the Havoks to give them that nurgle touch. Added to this was a small amount of plasticard work, cutting and gluing extra spikes and decorations onto the models as well as gouging and drilling damage and rot into the armor of the marines.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U1o8iUXCzCM/UlvZNcVsGbI/AAAAAAAAACc/3bGRsP6sq7I/s1600/autocannon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="171" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U1o8iUXCzCM/UlvZNcVsGbI/AAAAAAAAACc/3bGRsP6sq7I/s320/autocannon.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yKaL8Q7c6SA/UlvZNcAUfAI/AAAAAAAAACo/X0HH19rhMe8/s1600/Firstblobs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="255" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yKaL8Q7c6SA/UlvZNcAUfAI/AAAAAAAAACo/X0HH19rhMe8/s320/Firstblobs.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Things began to get more complicated when I had to cut, re position and remake nurgling limbs to make them perform the tasks I wanted them to. Unfortunately I did not record a lot of the work I did on the other nurglings in the squad, only the one reloading the missile launcher. Following this i made a crotch cloth that was meant to look like pieces of flesh stapled together, it came out OK - but was really just practice for what I had in store for the champion.<br />

<br />
<br />
When it comes to modelling, I follow WYSIWYG pretty closely, mostly because I think models look awesome fully decked out - To this end I made up some grenades and a nurgle bolt pistol in holster.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YibfaLH4Mq4/UlvZOnvExfI/AAAAAAAAAC4/NDse_iVW0yI/s1600/pistolgrenades.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="262" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YibfaLH4Mq4/UlvZOnvExfI/AAAAAAAAAC4/NDse_iVW0yI/s320/pistolgrenades.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The biggest challenge of the squad came to me in the form of the sergeant. I had this image in my mind of the bulging head of a deamon hanging from his back like a disgusting goiter, drooling foul puss onto the ground that was slavered up by gibbering nurglings as they went... Foul I know, but in my mind, so perfectly nurgle i had to see if I could make it happen.<br />
<br />
As far as modeling the head went, it was a simple process in so far as the techniques used, I just went back and layered three consecutive and more detailed stages of green stuff work onto the champions back, and then decorated with plasticard.<br />

I was happy with the end result. My first major effort sculpting something and it turned out basically as intended. Now it just needed some paint. That's all for this post, next post will be part 2 - The painted Havoks. Heres a few more images of the rocket launcher Havok and the group undercoated and ready to paint!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

That's right, its a Dark Vengeance Chosen.<br />
<br />
My old Chaos army (which I will shamefully display in a later post) was painted a clashing navy blue with white trim. When I finally got this chosen in my hands I decided it was time to swap out white for gold. The end result is rather similar to the night lords, however both the blue and gold typically end up duller and more muted, which I honestly prefer for Chaos.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7kmCJP8fqr8/UllrdAtpK8I/AAAAAAAAABg/eBC_3CXDTnY/s1600/chosen+side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7kmCJP8fqr8/UllrdAtpK8I/AAAAAAAAABg/eBC_3CXDTnY/s320/chosen+side.jpg" width="293" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Having never based my old army, I decided it was time to start basing, and with the aid of a box of skeletons my friend loaned me, I had a skeletal arm reaching from the lava.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XAjZ-Wvjz38/UllrmyzhKBI/AAAAAAAAABs/AWSEWxOfBls/s1600/chosenfront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XAjZ-Wvjz38/UllrmyzhKBI/AAAAAAAAABs/AWSEWxOfBls/s320/chosenfront.jpg" width="275" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And lastly a shot that i feel is at a slightly more forgiving distance.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7vuzpx8VoQ4/UllrmZf-pzI/AAAAAAAAABo/rUobxXvs1IY/s1600/forgivingchosen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="316" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7vuzpx8VoQ4/UllrmZf-pzI/AAAAAAAAABo/rUobxXvs1IY/s320/forgivingchosen.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
From this point on, I decided to more thoroughly catalog my painting and modeling. And actually took some WIP pictures. Next up was the combination of an ancient and overpriced chaos havok finecast kit, and some fantastic forgeworld goodies.<br />
<br />
Cheers!<br />

Welcome to my blog and its inaugural post. I will keep things short and sweet before you get bored and run away.<br />
<br />
I started collecting 40k when I was a young teen about a decade ago and spent several years painting some rather horrible looking paint jobs. After a while high school took over and I became far less interested in tiny plastic men. As age and money crept to me, my desire to paint tiny things resurfaced and two years ago I decided it was time for my Chaos army to be reborn. (The release of dark vengeance did much to inspire this).<br />
<br />
This will be the first post in a chain of posts focusing on painting and modelling, with the occasional gripe about this or that. I'm not fantastic, I'm nowhere near as good as some people out there, but for me that is the point of writing this - I want to showcase what people at the mid level of this hobby can achieve with patience and effort - and encourage others to do the same!<br />
<br />
<br />
These cultists were the first new models I painted, and even in a short space of time I can see I have improved since then. Enough words, time for some pictures.<br />
<br />
The Flame Cultist was a treat to paint, I particularly enjoyed my first effort at free hand detail on the fuel tank.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N_UpCGyDV8k/UllleF6bXZI/AAAAAAAAAAY/QegigyzMjEY/s1600/cultflamerfront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N_UpCGyDV8k/UllleF6bXZI/AAAAAAAAAAY/QegigyzMjEY/s320/cultflamerfront.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For me it is very important that models never look identical. This is a cult rabble not a line army, so I was adamant about taking my first small steps as a converter to make them look slightly different. I put the duplicate models next to each other.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They did all receive basing jobs in the end, I settled on "lava rock flows' for my army. But they would not be a cult without a traitor marine to look up to...</div>
